13 Jun 2008: Vintage figures are in and it's a biggie
The New Zealand Wine Industry has crushed a whopping 285,000 tonnes of grapes this year, up 39% on last year and almost 4 times the production of 10 years ago. Marlborough alone crushed 195,000 tonnes of grapes, which is more than the total crush across the whole country in 2006. The big jump in production, which is 40,000 tonnes more than predicted, is due primarily to increased production of Sauvignon Blanc in Marlborough to satisfy export demand.
